In the first of the seven-lap men's race, Robbert de Nijs (Feenstra Felt p/b Kenda) was riding in the front group, but he had some technical problems that made him finish his race early.
Robbert did however forced a breakaway of five riders. This quartet including teammate Thijs Zuurbier stayed together until the final round.
"It was good riding next to de Nijs," said Zuurbier after the race. He opened up a minute gap on the rest of the field. "It worked great,"
The lead group of four stayed together for some time and upped the pace. Thijs Zuurbier was able to stay in this leading group, but then he hit a branch with his bike and lost contact in the heat of the final. "I lost control for a moment and lost the group. But at last I was lucky that I didn't have a big crash" said Thijs.
In the late final lap, he made it back to the top three.
"It all went well today. I think I'm in good shape again. This was my first good race after my collarbone injury this spring," said Zuurbier, happy about his 2th place in Groesbeek.
You never know, but I think I was stronger than Slik," said Thijs Zuurbier who crossed the finish line 0.12 minutes behind Slik(1:33:07).
Twenty-five seconds later, Van Eck crossed the line in third. He beat Eversdijk in the final lap.
