UCI World Cup - Nove Mesto Na MoraveGepubliceerd op: 25 mei 2014
This weekend the third UCI World Cup took place in the Czech Republic nearby Nove Mesto Na Morave. The team arrived in the week before to be well prepared for this very occupied race. In All category´s the entrant numbers where doubled in comparison to the previous World Cups this year.
So the team could get ready for a fierce race. But, with an stunning (Czech) crowd this tended to be also one of the best races yet. With over 15.000 paid visitors the sport atmosphere was stunning.
Public and Riders where treated a true Mountain bike fest at the best European set up Mountain bike races. The riders had to overcome a technical race track that was both demanding for material as for themselves. With several stone pits, drops and steep climbs covered with sharp stones and slippery roots. The Public was provided with a lot of action and first-class tribune seats at the Start-Finish and in the forest near the ‘Kenda choice’, ‘Rock and Roll’ and A C –DC downhill.
First one up was Roy Beukers riding the Eliminator Race on Friday. In the qualifying round he made it to a 52th time. This was 4 seconds behind top-thirty that could enter the finals.
“I pushed so hard that I almost vomited so the effort was good. But I rather had raced the whole XCE competition rounds to see what my position is on WC level.” Mentioned Roy after his qualifying round.
Normally the team allow would have entered the race on Saturday, but due to a big Crash Lisa Mitterbauer went home earlier. She will be back in Albstadt next week.
In the meanwhile we prepared for the XC (Olympic Discipline) races on Sunday. This day the team was threatened a demanding schedule. First competitor was Roy Beukers start nr. 120. He entered the Men U23 Race at 9 AM. Roy did quite a job overtaking others and eventually finishing 90th Rank.
Women elite. Next was Blaza Klemencic. Blaza still suffers a bit from an shoulder injury that so got in March. However she felt ready for the race. Because of het shoulder she started a bit more carful that she normally does. Thanks to the Team’s paramedical assistant, who taped her upper body she had no problems receiving the impact from the technical sessions of the race track.
“In round two I started to feel more confident and from that moment on I started speeding up. This eventually resulted in a nice 10th rank. I am very happy to be back and this looks promising for the next races.” Mentioned a joyful Blaza after her race. The Woman Elite race was won by Pauline Prevot from France.
At 1.15 PM 170 Men elite started their race. Among them our two young Belgians; Ruben Scheire and Robby de Bock. The both of them had a hard struggle getting more upfront, as they started on position 60 and 80. Ruben however pushed hard in the firtst two laps and managed to close the gap to the top-thirty. Here he stayed until the final lap and finished just behind Countrymman and big Cross Icon Sven Nys. “Top thirty was my goal in the World Cups and getting this in such a busy race is awesome. Happy with my 26th rank!” Told Ruben after his Race.
Robby also aimed for top-thirty. He choose a rather differed approve by saving his enery for the final lap. “In the final two rounds I pushed as hard as I could and this resulted that I got to the 33th position. In the final downhill however I hit a rock to hard and punctured my tire this badly that I had to get a new wheel in the post. This caused me 20 positions. Downer, next week next chances” said Robby afterwards.
